Protein sources are occassionally adulterated with Urea. Urea contains Nitrogen as like all protein sources. Since laboratory testing measures Nitrogen content to determine the crude protein content of feed ingredient samples , the presence of urea in the product will show the protein component as satisfactory, although this may not be the case. Mixing urea in any protein source is a practice followed by unscrupulous suppliers. Hence urea estimation is prime importance in suspected feed ingredients.
