Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Agriculture Science University, Ludhiana, Punjab, jointly with Punjab Dairy Farmers Association organised a technical seminar at the College of Veterinary Sciences auditorium on Jan 11, 2007.
The meeting held on the second Thursday of every month is exclusively designed to provide knowledge to the Punjab Dairy Farmers’ who attend this popular programme in large numbers. Avitech participated in this meeting.
Technical presentations were deliberated by Dr. Prahlad Singh, Professor, Dr. M.P.S. Bakshi, H.O.D., College of Veterinary Science GADVASU and Dr. Parasu Ram Singh, Technical Manager, Avitech
Dr. Prahlad presented his topic on ”Reproduction management of dairy animals’. Reproductive disorders occur frequently in lactating dairy cows and can dramatically affect reproductive efficiency in a dairy herd.
Dr. M.P.S. Bakshi, spoke on “Feeding for high yielding dairy animals”, he said feeding of a high yielding cow is without doubt an art, but to obtain success in this operation, it is important to know and to practice some well-established scientific principles in animal nutrition.
Dr. Parasu Ram Singh, Technical Manager, Avitech, shared his views on “Body condition scoring (BCS) of dairy animals’. This system provides producers a relative score based on an evaluation of fat deposits in relation to skeletal features .BCS is an effective tool used to adjust feeding and management practices in order to maximise the potential of milk production and minimise reproductive disorders.
“BCS should be used to achieve optimal body condition of the cow at calving. It is important, however, to evaluate body condition throughout the year", Dr. Ram added.
The technical presentations were well received by the audience.
Dr. Simran Sagar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU, was also present to grace this occasion.
