Poultry is an important sub-sector of the National Livestock economy. The Indian poultry industry has come a long way-from being a totally unorganised sector to an industry operating largely on scientific lines.
Poultry industry in India has made rapid progress in the last three decades. India occupies 4th place in the world for egg and 5th place in the world for poultry meat production. The Indian poultry industry provides direct and indirect employment to about 3 million people especially in rural sector of India and contribute to about 7 billion US Dollars to the national GDP.
